Grading Requirements
In order to grade
for 2nd Degree Black Belt you must have done the following:
-
Attended the
Umpires Course (Parts I and II, with a minimum of 6
months in between them)
-
Officiated
at a minimum of 2 T.A.G.B. tournaments per year (at least 1
must be a national tournament)
-
Attended at
least 1 Pre-Grading Training Session/Patterns Course
every 6 months
-
Attended the 2
Pre-Grading Training Sessions immediately prior to the
grading
-
Written an
Essay on why you think you should be promoted to 2nd Dan
-
Have your
application form endorsed by your Instructor and your
Area Coordinator
-
Provided your
Instructor 8 passport sized photos
-
Passed 2
Pre-Pre-Gradings, 1 at Emersons Green and another at
Bristol Academy
-
Passed the
official Pre-Grading at Bristol Academy
-
Have paid
for your grading before the deadline.
Remember:
1st Dan Black Belts are eligible to grade after
2 YEARS, unless they are under the age of
16
All time spent as a
1st Dan under the age of 16 is halved (1yr = 6months)
E.g. An 11 yr old will be eligible to grade after 4yrs, A 14 yr
old will be eligible after 3yrs
But this will depend on when their birthday falls.
In this period they are eligible to do 1 Star Grading per year.

Theory
Patterns:

Kwang-Gae (Gwang-Gae):
is picked after the famous Gwang-Gae T'o-Wang, the 19th King of
the Koguryo Dynasty, who regained all the lost territories
including the greater part of Manchuria. The diagram represents
the expansion and recovery of lost territory. The 39 movements
refer to his reign for 39 years.

Kwang-Gae has
39 moves and begins in a Parallel Ready Stance With Heaven
Hands

Po-Eun: is
the pseudonym of a loyal subject Chong Mong-Chur (1400 A.D.) who
was a famous poet and whose poem "I would not serve a second
master though I might be crucified a hundred times" is known to
every Korean. He was also a pioneer in the field of physics. The
diagram represents his unerring loyalty to the King and country
towards the end of the Koryo Dynasty.
